What is powder coating?
Powder coating is a thermoplastic or thermoset polimer dry powder. The coating is applied electrostatically and then cured under heat to allow it to flow out into a liquid. Once it cools it becomes a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.
What are the benefits of powder coating?
- Powder coating is rust proof and weather resistant as well as resistant to salt and most chemicals
- Protects against scratches and chips, is flexible to prevent cracking, and will not fade in the sun
- Emit almost no VOC (Volitile Organic Compounds) if any at all and create less hazardous waste
- Can produce thicker coatings than liquid paint without running
- Overspray can be recycled instead of wasted
- Equipment and operating are less expensive than the expenses of liquid paint
- Can't tell the difference between parts that were coated vertically or horizontally
- Customization is much easier than with liquid paint
What kind of materials can be powder coated?
Any material that can hold an electrostatic charge and withstand the high temperatures of the curing process. (Metal and glass)
